Meet Mrs. Cahill (A.K.A. The Hungry Teacher)

Hi.

I’m Martina Cahill.

It’s the summer of 2018 and I realized I hadn’t updated my “About Me,” section in forever. When I first started this blog, I had literally just finished students teaching (almost 6 years ago gah!) My mentor teacher Kelly had a blog and I basically told her she was nuts if she ever thought I was going to have a blog ha! I actually love it, but she said I would get one and she would be there to tell me, “I told you so.” She’s basically always right.

So….

I student taught 5th grade in Grand Junction, Colorado under the best mentor teacher in the whole world…. Kelly blogs over at https://appleslices4th.blogspot.com. She basically changed my life in every way you can imagine. It was seriously THE BEST student teaching experience in the world, and one of the most memorable years.

I spent the next two years teaching 5th grade in that same school. Kelly went and taught in Spain for a year and went back to her side of the United States after (North and South Carolina). We only got that one year together :(, and I had two different teaching partners at that first school.

My second teaching partner, Shelly, was pretty much the best thing that ever happened to me. We learned so much from each other. I could see us being teaching partners forever. We were set to go into our second year together, but then my husband got his dream job offer across the state. Basically I’m doomed to only spend one year with the best teaching partners.

Anyway, we packed our bags, moved across the state back to Pueblo (the same place we went to college). I taught 6th grade ELA and Science for one year. It was the hardest year of my life and I honestly kind of hated most of it (as always, not because of the kids), BUT it was also one of the best things that happened to me because I learned a lot of stuff I really needed to learn for my current (and favorite) job. If I could go back in time, I would still take that job.

I now teach 7th and 8th grade ELA and don’t know how I ever did anything else. It’s the BEST JOB EVER.

Anyway, a little about me…

I am originally from the beautiful mountain town of Salida, Colorado and I went to college in Pueblo, Colorado at Colorado State University-Pueblo to get my degree in Elementary Education. Go T-Wolves!

I married my best friend, Richie, in Las Vegas in the summer of 2012. We got married at the wedding chapel in Caesar’s Palace with all our closest family and friends there. He was my 7th grade boyfriend (not kidding) so I kind of have a serious soft spot in my heart for middle school relationships.

I have three younger siblings, who are the coolest people I know. We have so much fun together, especially now that we don’t live together :).

       Mackenzie, Nico, Me, and Mariah.
And probably the biggest and best change in my life in these last 6 years… We had a little boy, Duke. He’s legit the best thing in the world. He makes me want to only have him but also want ten more of him.
